The "Global Top 500 New Energy Companies" event is a large-scale public welfare event jointly launched by China Energy News and China Energy Economic Research Institute since 2011 for authoritative research and evaluation of the new energy industry.

The list refers to international practices, and selects the operating income of new energy companies in the previous year as the main inspection indicator, reflecting the basic characteristics, latest changes and trends of the global new energy industry.

In 2020, the "Top 500" companies come from 38 countries and regions, with China, the United States, and Japan ranking the top three.

After experiencing a decline, the growth rate of the “Top 500” companies entering the threshold has begun to recover.

2016-2020 global top 500 new energy companies total operating income (trillion yuan)

The same is true for the changes in the total operating income of enterprises. In 2020, the total operating income of the "Top 500" enterprises is 4.2234 billion yuan, an increase of 425.9 billion yuan over 2019, an increase of 11.05% year-on-year. The growth rate has rebounded again after two years of continuous decline.

The "2020 Global 500 New Energy Companies List" also shows that Asian and European companies are the core force for the increase in the total revenue of the "Top 500" companies.

In terms of the number of companies on the list, there are 107 European companies and 298 Asian companies.

From the perspective of the total operating income of the listed companies, the total operating income of the selected Asian companies is 2,267 billion yuan, an increase of 305.2 billion yuan over 2019, accounting for 53.68% of the total revenue of the "Top 500".

The total operating income of European companies is 1109.7 billion yuan, an increase of 120 billion yuan over 2019, accounting for 26.28%.

It is worth noting that China is the core force of Asian growth.

In 2020, the "Top 500" Chinese companies on the list show a situation of increasing both quantity and quality. Although the number of companies on the list is 2 less than in 2019, the total operating income has increased significantly, reaching 1,598.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16.44%, accounting for Asia's total 73.95% of the added value.

As China's status in the global new energy industry has improved, the scale of the "Top 500" Chinese companies has also grown rapidly, and their competitiveness has increased.

In terms of the types of energy companies, the number of "Top 500" energy storage companies will decrease in 2020, the total operating income of energy storage companies has dropped sharply, solar companies have grown weakly, and the solar energy industry will overtake the energy storage industry.

Multi-industry enterprises refer to enterprises that carry out diversified operations but focus on new energy sources such as solar energy, biomass energy, energy storage, wind energy and hydrogen energy.

In terms of the number of companies on the list, there are 238 diversified industry companies, ranking first; 90 solar energy companies, 81 energy storage battery companies, 51 biomass energy companies, 36 wind energy companies, 2 hydrogen energy companies, and 2 geothermal energy companies. .

In terms of the scale of operating income, the total operating income of diversified industrial enterprises was 194.3 billion yuan, accounting for 47.22% of the total operating income, and it was 37.52% in 2019.

Solar energy companies accounted for 672.2 billion yuan, accounting for 15.92% of total operating income, and 17.49% in 2019.

Energy storage battery companies have dropped significantly from 735.8 billion yuan last year to 659.2 billion yuan, accounting for 15.61% of total operating income, and 19.38% in 2019.

Biomass energy companies accounted for 476.4 billion yuan, accounting for 11.28% of total operating income.

Wind energy companies are 406.3 billion yuan, accounting for 9.62%.

Hydrogen energy companies accounted for 7.1 billion yuan, accounting for 0.17%.

Geothermal energy enterprises 7.8 billion yuan, accounting for 0.19%.

China Energy Economic Research Institute believes that the large-scale withdrawal of energy storage industry enterprises is directly related to industry changes.

In 2019, although the global sales of new energy vehicles increased by 10%, the Chinese market was declining.

Furthermore, the total shipments of the top 10 global power battery companies in 2019 accounted for 85% of the global market share, showing that the stronger the stronger.

Under the influence of dual factors, many small and medium-sized battery companies are facing survival crisis, the industry has begun to integrate, and the industry concentration has increased. This is also the reason why the number of energy storage companies on the list has decreased and the revenue has fallen sharply.
