In a report issued yesterday, the TRA stated that the two telecom companies have achieved a highly competitive performance compared to other developed countries in the information and communication technology sector worldwide.

The authority stressed that continuous improvements have been achieved by the licensees in various mobile phone indicators, especially with regard to data services, thanks to the use of the latest developments in fourth generation technologies, which would produce tangible results for consumers.

The authority noted that the two companies are expected to continue strengthening their networks to maintain a high level of services, despite the increase in traffic in the networks.

The authority noted that a survey was conducted in the fourth quarter of last year, related to the quality of mobile phone services, covering about 46 thousand voice calls, on the network of each of the two companies, and included testing a range of data services available in all second, third and fourth generation technologies.

The survey also covered all the emirates of the country, and included checks in cities, municipalities, and main roads in the country. The quality of mobile services was also tested in 50 major internal sites in the country.

The survey showed the success of completing voice calls in the external coverage by 99.1% for "Etisalat" and 98% for "Du", while the success rate for establishing the voice call in the external coverage was 99.1% for "Etisalat" and 98.4% for "Du". According to the authority, the voice quality rate exceeded 99.3% for "Etisalat" and 98.7% for "Du".
