Etihad Airways is testing facial recognition technology for its cabin crew

Etihad Airways has recently announced its cooperation with SITA Information Technology to test facial recognition technology at cabin crew entry points at the Etihad Airways Crew Orientation Center at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The experimental technology uses facial recognition feature to identify and verify the identity of air crews, allowing them to complete their entry procedures and answer mandatory safety and security questions, digitally via their mobile phones.

The new technology will replace existing check in and travel platforms that require them to use the employee card as a verification method.

In this regard, Captain Suleiman Al Yaqoubi, Vice President, Aviation Operations, Etihad Aviation Group, said: “Etihad is constantly striving to find various innovative solutions and modern technologies that will enhance the company's operations and improve the experiences of guests and employees alike.” Etihad is pleased to cooperate with SITA is exploring the services that facial recognition technology can provide to the aviation sector. With the inclusion of contactless technologies, biometric services will contribute to increasing efficiency while also keen on the company's commitment to limiting the spread of the Covid-19 virus by reducing Points of direct contact and the promotion of social distancing measures.

As part of the company's strategy to digitize its operations, facial recognition technology is expected to improve the efficiency of operations by speeding up the completion of current entry and travel procedures, automating time and attendance management and entry control systems for aircrew.

And the cabin crew will also enjoy a smooth and comfortable experience without the need to touch the devices when entering the areas.

In enhancing airport efficiency. "

The experimental phase will continue until February of next year 2021, and will provide the Federation with a valuable database that allows it to search for more discoveries in the field of biometric techniques to be used at points of contact with travelers, such as check-in and boarding ports.
