VW K70 -

DR

With its water-cooled engine and transmission to the front wheels, the Volkswagen K70 has made the transition to a concept of propulsion never before seen for the brand, which will then impose itself successfully thanks to the Passat and the Golf.

The K70 was based on an independent suspension chassis that met the latest standards.

The exceptionally long wheelbase gave off a particularly generous interior space, and offered a very pleasant driving experience.

In addition to high-level comfort, the emphasis was on active and passive safety.

Features such as the reinforced airframe for the passengers, crumple zones at the front and rear, the fuel tank housed at the rear in a protected space, as well as the standard pre-equipment for the seat belts safety on all seats set new benchmarks.

Last but not least, the functional and clean design still seems modern today.

This three-volume sedan was created by Claus Luthe, one of the most important automotive designers of his time.

Elements of his stylistic signature will also be found in later Volkswagen models, such as the Golf and Polo.
