This is yet another hard blow for an entire industry that is already weakened.

The santons fair and the Christmas market which are traditionally held each year in the Old Port of Marseille have been canceled,

from Rebecca Bernardi, deputy mayor of Marseille in charge of trade.

In 2019, these events brought together 55 exhibitors and 25 artisans santonniers during the month of December.

This cancellation echoes dozens of others across France who are plunging santonniers into great distress.

The profession realizes 80% of its turnover during fairs organized before Christmas.

Provencal santonniers have recently come together to form the union of santonniers and creators and together claim the possibility of selling santons outdoors.
