The Ministry of Economy revealed the development of new partnerships in the areas of digital transformation, innovation, food security and renewable energy with Italy, noting that the two countries agreed on an action plan to support cooperation efforts during the recovery and post-"Covid-19" phase.

The Minister of Economy, Abdullah bin Touq Al-Marri, said during a meeting with the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, that “trade and economic relations with Italy are based on historical friendship and a mutual desire to develop and protect common interests,” noting that Italy is an important partner. The UAE has the right to cooperate in the fields of the new economy, in light of many commonalities in the visions and development strategies of the two countries.

According to a statement issued yesterday on "the economy", the two ministers discussed during the meeting opportunities for cooperation in a number of new economic sectors that serve the efforts of the two countries during the recovery period and the post-"Covid-19" stage, with a focus on the sectors related to digital transformation and the tools of the fourth industrial revolution. And artificial intelligence and advanced technological technologies in the fields of financial and agricultural services, food and renewable energy.

The two sides stressed the strategic importance of air transport to enhance the economic partnership between the two countries.

The Emirati side suggested strengthening cooperation in the field of food security, whether at the bilateral level between the two countries, or by entering into joint investments in a third market, focusing on opportunities in African markets.

In addition, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, said, “The strong bilateral relations between the UAE and Italy are distinguished by the fact that they include cooperation in the priority sectors of the two countries concerned with innovation, scientific research, development and entrepreneurship, as well as the main economic sectors in the fields of Trade, investment, infrastructure, transport, aviation, logistics and tourism ».

For his part, Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, said that his country is keen to strengthen its partnership with the UAE, not only in the economic and trade fields, but in various developmental areas of common interest.

The Minister of Economy, Abdullah bin Touq Al-Marri said, “The UAE views Italy as a major commercial and economic partner, as Italy is one of the most important trade partners of the country at the level of the European Union, with a total of non-oil trade exchange between the two countries, which last year recorded up to 7.6 billion Dollars (27.8 billion dirhams) ».
