On November 9, 2020, at the test base in Jiangxia District, Wuhan, the suspended monorail independently developed by China Railway Science and Industry Group realized unmanned driving on the "empty track" test line.

According to China Railway Science and Industry Group, this "empty track" test line is more than 800 meters in length and is the first "empty track" test line in Hubei Province. It is the first to complete an unmanned driving test in China. The unmanned driving system has all commercial functions.

Suspended monorail trains are abbreviated as "empty rails". The trains are suspended below the rails. The rails are supported in the air by steel or cement columns. They occupy a small area and have a short construction period, which has unique advantages.

The single "air rail" transport volume is generally 300 to 400 people, and the passenger flow per hour is nearly 10,000, which is about half of the subway volume, but the cost is only a quarter of the subway.
