The cumulative number of people reported to have died after getting an influenza (flu) vaccine this year has exceeded 100.



According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) today (10th), a total of 101 people were reported to have died within a few days after vaccination by 0:00 today after starting the '2020-2021 influenza vaccination'.



Compared to the 97 people reported by 0 o'clock on the 7th, 4 people increased.



The disease agency investigated the causes of death in 101 people and found that 97 had no association with vaccination.



Epidemiological investigations are underway for the remaining four.



Looking at 101 deaths by age group, 84 people (83.2%) were over 70, accounting for the majority.



The number of people in their 80s and over is 44, followed by 40s in their 70s, 9 in their 60s, and 8 in their 60s.



The time of death report is 1 person until October 18, 60 people from October 19 to 25, 24 people from October 26 to November 1, 13 people from November 2 to 8, 3 people on November 9, etc. As a result, it was concentrated in the third week of October (10.19-25), when the national vaccination support project for the elderly aged 70 or older began.



Looking at the regions where the deaths occurred, 74.3 in 7 regions including Gyeonggi (15), Seoul (13), Gyeongnam (11), Jeonbuk (10), Daegu-Gyeongbuk (9 each) and Jeonnam (8). % (75) were reported.



After influenza vaccination, 64 patients (63.4%) took more than 48 hours to die, and 17 patients (16.8%) had less than 24 hours.



On the other hand, out of a total of 19614,91 people aged 6 months to 12 years old, pregnant women, 13 to 18 years old, and 62 years old or older who are subject to the national free vaccination program, the number of persons who have completed vaccination so far is 1,256 million. It was identified as 1,457 people.



Among them, a total of 1,837 cases were reported that there were adverse reactions such as fever or local reaction after getting the flu vaccine, but the association with vaccination has not been confirmed.



The National Institute of Forensic Science has completed autopsies on 45 of the 101 deaths by yesterday, and did not perform autopsies on 55 cases.



The other one is scheduled for an autopsy soon.



Regarding the counted death cases, the Korea Institute for Disease Control and Prevention explained, "As a result of reviewing epidemiological investigations, basic investigations, and autopsy results for 97 out of 101 deaths so far, there were no presumed findings of adverse vaccine reactions in all cases."



With regard to the remaining four additional confirmed deaths, the causality will be confirmed and further investigation and analysis will be conducted.
