Significantly increased investment in enterprise R&D and industrialization——

The development of hybrid vehicles is expected to usher in spring

Economic Daily·China Economic Net reporter Liu Jin

Experts believe that in view of the special national conditions such as my country's regional environment and energy structure, it is more appropriate to diversify automobile technologies and energy types. In the next 15 years, China's traditional automobiles will be fully transformed into hybrid vehicles.

At present, various auto companies have significantly increased their investment in research and development and industrialization of hybrid electric vehicles, and the pace of industrialization has been accelerating.

In the future, my country's automobile industry will overcome technical bottlenecks in the industry, make up for shortcomings in the industry chain, and achieve a significant improvement in the level of autonomy of key core technologies.

Recently, at the "2020 China Society of Automotive Engineers Annual Meeting and Exhibition", the China Society of Automotive Engineers released the "Energy-saving and New Energy Vehicle Technology Roadmap 2.0" (hereinafter referred to as the "Version 2.0 Roadmap").

"It is estimated that by 2035, my country's annual automobile production and sales scale will be greatly increased, and safety, efficiency, convenience, economy, and greenness will become the main directions for people to upgrade their travel needs. By then, traditional energy-powered passenger cars will be fully transformed into hybrid power , New energy vehicles will become the mainstream, with sales accounting for more than 50%.” said Li Jun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, chairman of the Chinese Society of Automotive Engineering, and professor at Tsinghua University.

No timetable for burning ban

Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the National Passenger Car Market Information Joint Council, believes that the "Roadmap 2.0" is based on the background of the new round of technological revolution, proposes a vision for the development of the automobile industry in 2035, and formulates scientific, forward-looking and leading technological development. Route, condensing the key core technology research and development needs in the near and mid-term, determining the short-term priority action items, providing technical guidance for the continuous, rapid and healthy development of my country's automobile industry, and is the compass for the development of industry technology.

"The '2.0 Roadmap' has many highlights, especially the clarification of the future market sales of 40 million expectations, boosting the confidence of the industry." Cui Dongshu specifically pointed out that the "2.0 Roadmap" does not have a "burn ban timetable" and proposes to achieve it by 2035. The goal that energy-efficient vehicles and new energy vehicles account for half of each other has a good guiding role in the development of energy-efficient vehicles and new energy vehicles.

"Burning ban" is a buzzword in the auto industry.

In response to increasingly stringent emission standards, many European countries have formulated a "ban on burning timetable", and my country's Hainan Province has also introduced a comprehensive ban on the sale of fuel vehicles in 2030.

Are fuel vehicles really going to withdraw from the stage of history?

Wang Binggang, head of the National New Energy Vehicle Innovation Project Expert Group, introduced to reporters that in view of my country's special national conditions such as the geographical environment and energy structure, diversified vehicle technologies and energy types are more appropriate.

Therefore, the expert group agreed that in the next 15 years, China's traditional cars will be fully transformed into hybrid models.

It is precisely because of this consideration that the idea of replacing the "burn ban timetable" with a "comprehensive electric drive plan" in the "Roadmap 2.0" is obviously more in line with China's national conditions and is also more conducive to the current development of the automotive industry.

 The development direction is clear

Without formulating a "ban on burning timetable", can my country's traditional car companies breathe a sigh of relief?

  actually not.

It can be seen from the "Roadmap Version 2.0" that by 2035, energy-saving and new energy vehicles will be evenly divided.

As the world's largest automobile production and sales country, my country's automobile carbon emissions account for about 8% of the total carbon emissions, so effective control of automobile carbon emissions is crucial.

However, while developing new energy vehicles, turning fuel vehicles into hybrid vehicles that are more acceptable to consumers will help significantly reduce vehicle carbon emissions.

So, what is an energy-efficient car?

In the "Roadmap Version 2.0", plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and pure electric vehicles (BEV) are classified as new energy vehicles, fuel cell vehicles (FCEV), extended range hybrid vehicles (REEV) and ordinary Hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) belong to the category of energy-saving vehicles.

This means that traditional fuel vehicles must be fully transformed into hybrid vehicles.

However, many car companies in my country lack sufficient technical reserves for hybrid vehicles, and they will undoubtedly face greater challenges if they want to fully transform in less than 15 years.

Ye Shengji, chief engineer and deputy secretary-general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, told reporters that at present, various auto companies have significantly increased their investment in research and development and industrialization of hybrid vehicles, and the pace of industrialization has been accelerating.

FAW, Dongfeng, SAIC, Changan, Chery, BYD, etc. have invested a lot of capital and resources. Hybrid electric vehicles have completed prototype development, and some have been launched in small batches.

"In addition to the problem of technology itself, in my country, hybrid electric vehicles are in the early stage of development, the market has not yet formed, and the industrialization has not yet formed, so the overall price is high and ordinary consumers cannot afford it." Ye Shengji predicts that the government will support vigorously in the future. Next, the development direction of hybrid vehicles will be clearer.

Build an independent industrial chain

The "Roadmap for Version 2.0" puts forward five industry visions including continuous improvement of automotive product quality, safety and control of core links, sustainable development of the automotive industry, completion of the construction of a new industry ecosystem, and the comprehensive realization of the strategic goal of a powerful automobile nation.

In the past few decades, due to a late start, the Chinese auto market has been in an awkward position of being large but not strong.

In order to get rid of dependence on imports of core technologies, a number of related policies have been introduced in recent years to promote the innovative development of China's automobile industry.

The power battery backbone enterprises represented by the Ningde era have gone abroad and competed with multinational companies in the international market. This is an important breakthrough in China's new energy automobile industry after more than ten years of policy support.

"After years of development, my country's auto industry has achieved fruitful results." Li Jun said that while seeing the achievements, we must also see that the foundation of my country's auto industry is still a weak link.

First of all, basic software and device shortcomings such as design and simulation software platforms for automotive R&D and automotive-grade computing chips have not yet been filled; secondly, key materials such as high-quality electrical steel and amorphous alloy iron cores have yet to be broken through; thirdly, basic technology There are still shortcomings, which affect the implementation of technological innovation from research and development to industrialization; finally, the key components such as the intelligent networked car operating system are still heavily dependent on imports, and it is difficult to reach the level of industrialization.

Wang Binggang also called for learning from the internal combustion engine industry, increasing independent R&D and industrial development of electric drive systems, paying attention to the research and development of key materials, core parts/components, main control chips, and software architecture to form an independent and controllable industrial chain .

"The'Roadmap 2.0' fully considers the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry and the development trend of low-carbon autos." Cui Dongshu said that in the future, my country's auto industry will overcome technical bottlenecks in the industry, make up for shortcomings in the industry chain, and achieve the level of autonomy of key core technologies. Significant improvement, forming a collaborative, efficient, safe and controllable energy-saving and new energy automobile industry chain.

Li Jun stated that under the guidance of the "Roadmap Version 2.0", in 2035, my country will realize the complete independent control of the industrial chain, complete the intelligent transformation of the industry, complete the industrial technology innovation system, and greatly enhance the innovation capability, thus forming A policy system that is conducive to the integration and development of low-carbon, informatization, and intelligence, and builds a comprehensive and three-dimensional talent system.
