How could Tesla miss 5G?

The automotive industry is awaiting the implementation of the fifth generation of standards for mobile telephony.

But it seems that the Californian manufacturer of electric vehicles is already ready to welcome this new technology.

By analyzing the latest update deployed by Tesla, a hacker discovered improvements regarding Autopilot and the arrival of new applications like Spotify.

But the code would also hide a function related to 5G connectivity, reports

.

The hacker in question, by the name of greentheonly, tweeted: “There is also a curious option which asks cars to collect hotspot information.

Wifi hotspots could very well arrive in the near future ”.

And then there's additional bandwidth usage monitoring added and a curious mothership option to ask cars to "collect hotspot info" - hotspot might really appear in foreseeable future?

Improve Autopilot

Currently, Tesla vehicles, including the latest Model 3, carry a 4G LTE modem.

This connectivity contributes in particular to the proper functioning of the driver assistance system.

Thanks to the capacities of 5G, which makes it possible to obtain speeds greater than 4G, the electric vehicle would thus be able to better control its environment and react more quickly in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

Future Tesla models will therefore probably be able to integrate a 5G modem.

However, the American brand did not comment.

But the new communication technology not yet being deployed, this still leaves time for the manufacturer to prepare for its use.
