Faced with giant competitors like Amazon, the response of the little ones is getting organized.

Intermarché will launch next Monday a "solidarity drive" offering local businesses, first bookstores, to put their products on sale in the digital marketplace of the group's supermarkets.

This action is being carried out with a lot of inserts in the local and national press on Thursday.

"We hear the anger, the distress of small traders and in particular booksellers, we hear the discourse of pushing for digitization, click & collect, but not all are necessarily ready", explains the president of Intermarché and Netto, Thierry Cotillard.

“The idea is to give merchants a hand by providing them with our digital tools, our click & collect platform, initially with booksellers.

The “click” is done on our site, but the “collect” is done in their store, ”he continues.

"Possible in 1,500 drives in France"

“Local” dimension of the system: “Lorient bookstores can offer their books in the city's Intermarché solidarity drives”.

"It's possible in 1,500 drives in France".

The Intermarché digital marketplace was developed with Mirakl, the French pioneer of online marketplaces, which at the end of September carried out the largest fundraising ever by a French start-up.

In its advertising inserts in the press, Intermarché targeted the American giant Amazon.

"Sorry Jeff, we are already working to make this service available to other local businesses in difficulty", it is written there in particular.

Many elected officials and merchants in recent days believe that the closure of certain physical businesses will bring happiness to e-commerce in general, and to Amazon in particular.

Carrefour offers a subscription to merchants

If he explained that he did not want to "pass for a sore loser", and see the American giant as "an excellent spur to accelerate our digital transition", Thierry Cotillard also recalls the "demand for real tax fairness".

Amazon, which claims 420 million euros of total tax contribution in France (including VAT), is regularly accused of having an advantage in terms of taxation compared to distributors.

"The form of distribution, today's purchases save the economy and the jobs of tomorrow", concludes Thierry Cotillard.

On Wednesday, the distributor Carrefour announced, also in partnership with Mirakl, the implementation of "an accelerated digitalization solution", offering certain shops "the subscription to its marketplace until the end of 2020" .

Among the conditions, sell food, hygiene, care and beauty products, animal or childcare products "meeting quality requirements", and "be able to deliver throughout France and 'provide customer service in French'.
