The government has announced aid for independent bookstores because of restrictive measures in the fight against the coronavirus.

The shipping costs of the books will therefore be reimbursed by the State for the duration of the confinement according to the Minister of Culture, Roselyne Bachelot.

The government announced, Thursday, November 5, that it would cover the costs of sending books ordered from independent bookstores during the period of confinement due to the coronavirus, in order to "help them to continue their activity through the sale online".

Only for "TPE and SME size" bookstores

"This device will allow booksellers to charge their customers only for shipping costs at the minimum legal rate, ie 0.01 euros", specify in a joint statement the Ministers of Economy Bruno Le Maire and Culture Roselyne Bachelot.

The bookstores concerned, "meeting the VSE and SME size criteria and for which the sale of new books is the main activity", will thus have to file reimbursement requests.
