This year's conference focused on policies to promote the development of the science fiction industry. At the opening ceremony, a series of related measures to promote the development of science fiction and industry were announced to accelerate the construction of science fiction industry clusters and increase precise support for the development of science fiction industry.

During the conference, three themed exhibitions, including the exhibition of science fiction art, the exhibition of new technologies and products of technological innovation, and the science fiction exhibition of "parallel universe", are open to the public.
Stepping into the science fiction art exhibition area, the Three-body Art Illustration Exhibition showcased nearly a hundred illustrators based on the science fiction novel "Three-body": water droplets, curvature of light speed spacecraft... another exhibit is the visual design manuscript of "The Wandering Earth", The designer's hand-drawn drawing of the movie "The Wandering Earth" is visually presented in a dynamic form.

“This conference introduces science fiction art exhibition for the first time, which is in contrast with the hard-core industrial sense of Shougang Park, showing the charm of science fiction in multiple dimensions and levels.” said Qian Yihe, the person in charge of the science fiction art exhibition.
The exhibition of scientific and technological innovation, new technology and new products covers an area of nearly 3,000 square meters, displaying cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements that support the development of the science fiction industry, including a new generation of information technology, virtual reality, and 24 related experience exhibits.
For example, in the artificial intelligence sector, viewers can experience the new 5G digital world, and they can interact with remote mobile operating robots at close range.
The "Parallel Universe" science fiction exhibition uses a container as a carrier, and exhibits a sports car that has been converted into a time travel machine in the full-scale reprint movie "Back to the Future".
As night falls, the science and technology show of Beijing Science Fiction Night is staged in Shougang Park. The night landscape lights are on. The audience can watch the science fiction reality show and robot dance show in front of the South Square of the Three Blast Furnace, and feel the visual feast carefully prepared for science fiction fans.
The science fiction industry is gaining momentum
The conference released the "2020 China Science Fiction Industry Report". The report shows that China's science fiction industry has developed steadily in the past year. The total value of the industry for the year is 65.871 billion yuan, a significant increase from 45.635 billion yuan in 2018.
The report was jointly prepared by the Chinese Science Fiction Research Center of the Chinese Science Popularization Research Institute and the Science and Human Imagination Research Center of Southern University of Science and Technology.
The report shows that in the four major segments of the sci-fi industry: reading, film and television, games and peripheral products, film and television and games account for most of the shares.
"The Wandering Earth" won word-of-mouth and a good box office harvest. The responsibility, cooperation, and loyalty shown in the film inspired the patriotic dedication and active participation in science fiction in the whole society." In terms of games, a total of 1,380 domestic online games were reviewed in 2019, among which science fiction games accounted for about 15%, and the annual output value exceeded 43 billion yuan.
In the first half of this year, the output value of science fiction games exceeded 22 billion yuan, which shows the huge potential of the science fiction game market.

Policy support ignites enthusiasm for innovation
In recent years, Chinese films have developed rapidly in special effects production. However, for science fiction films, special effects production is still a difficult obstacle to overcome.
“Audiences’ requirements for movies have increased and they will target world-class science fiction films.” Director Lu Yang believes that on the one hand, special effects production companies need government support and help; on the other hand, the science fiction film and television industry faces difficulties in retaining talents. Issues such as fierce cross-industry competition.
Liu Xuedong, CEO of Beijing Dream Chasing Ark, believes that the creation of China's science fiction industry chain requires the creation of literature, copyright protection, publication and distribution, script adaptation, art design, promotion, theater broadcasting, derivative products, animation games, and cultural tourism. At the same time, creators and entrepreneurs with science fiction dreams should be able to participate.
At the opening ceremony, Beijing’s first policy to support the development of the science fiction industry-Shijingshan District's "16 Sci-Fi Articles" was released, and a special fund of 50 million yuan was set up for the science fiction industry. Production, support digital imaging and synthesis, digital rendering, motion capture and other technology research and development and application services.
