To increase the value of a property, enlarge the living space, house a living room, a kitchen, a winter garden or even a swimming pool, the veranda is always popular with the owners.

A living space, this “added” room must be comfortable, functional and aesthetic at the same time.

Today, these glass extensions no longer have much in common with those of thirty years ago.

The lines are more contemporary, the materials lighter and the performance, in terms of insulation, air regulation, longevity and safety, continues to improve.

Aluminum for a solid and reliable structure

Today, 95% of verandas installed in France are made of aluminum profiles.

Lightweight and dimensionally stable, they are corrosion resistant and offer a wide choice of colors and finishes.

Noble and 99% recyclable, aluminum is a clean and non-toxic material, therefore healthy for a living room.

Once installed, it does not emit particles or dust and does not emit any dangerous smoke emission if it comes into contact with fire.

Useful for making a solid, reliable and weather-resistant framework, it is part of a sustainable development approach.

Now there are even mixed wood / aluminum uprights or insulated on the inside with foam, for even more thermal protection.

Insulation: efficient glazing and accessories

For effective thermal and sound insulation and air and water tightness, you must choose at least double glazing.

Ideally, we opt for laminated glass, which is burglar-resistant and offers excellent acoustic protection.

Depending on the orientation of the house or its geographical location, we will favor triple glazing, even more efficient in terms of insulation against cold and heat.

To enjoy an ideal temperature all year round, several technical options exist.

In addition to adding heating adapted for winter and an air conditioning system for summer heat, thermal performance can be modulated by installing electric shutters, for example.

Easy to maintain, they are also effective in terms of sound insulation and protect against possible break-ins.

Finally, the sunshade, whose outer slats can be oriented using a remote control, is more aesthetic.

Regulating the interior temperature and brightness according to the position of the sun, it is discreet or even invisible when it is brought up in its gutter.

What about roofing?

The roof is an essential component of the veranda.

The last aesthetic element of the room, it must allow light to pass through for greater comfort and provide satisfactory thermal and sound insulation.

Regarding materials, several solutions are available to you.

The glass roof guarantees good light in the room and gives the impression of living in the middle of nature.

Small budgets will appreciate the polycarbonate sheets, a translucent material and less refined than glass but more resistant to impacts and less expensive.

The only downside: it can make noise when it rains hard.

For optimum insulation, “sandwich” panels can be installed, made of insulating and rigid extruded polystyrene foam, housed between two pre-painted aluminum facings.

For a wooden structure, we will opt instead for tile or slate if we want to keep a traditional aesthetic.

Finally, the roof can have several shapes, starting with the most classic, the pitched roof.

You can choose to have one, two or even several slopes, to create a faceted veranda, also called "radiant" because of its star shape.

The flat roof brings a modern and design look that goes as well with contemporary houses as with old buildings.
