It was November 4, 1995. Israeli Prime Minister Itzhak Rabin, a fervent supporter of a peace process with the Palestinians, was killed three times by a Jewish extremist after a political rally for peace in in the heart of Tel Aviv.

Twenty-five years later, due to the pandemic, part of the commemorations were canceled.

A rally was organized at the call of the “Peace Now” movement in Zion Square in the heart of Jerusalem.

It is precisely there that 25 years ago - one month before the assassination of Itzhak Rabin -, Benyamin Netanyahu then the leader of the opposition had harangued the crowd.

“

25 years later, unfortunately, there is still hatred, there is still this attempt by Netanyahu to attack everything that is against him, and [to attack] democracy and peace,”

denounces Irena, an activist of the pacifist movement.

I am here because I am very, very worried.

 "

More serious than in 1995

The protesters then marched in front of Prime Minister Netanyahu's residence to join the thousands of people who demonstrate there every week.

For Nava, the situation is even more serious than in November 1995. "

Look, political violence is in every corner,

" she warns.

And we're not far from someone being killed.

Not far at all!

 "

Again this week in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, there were several cases of

violence against protesters

.

The police made numerous arrests.

Since the beginning of the summer, Israelis have been demonstrating to demand the resignation of the Prime Minister.

The movement was initiated by anti-corruption activists as the head of government is on trial in three different cases and his management of the country and the health crisis is criticized.
