Amendment to the "Postal Law" to abolish Saturday mail delivery Cabinet decision October 30, 10:29

A bill to amend the "Postal Law" to abolish postal delivery on Saturday was approved by the Cabinet on the 30th.

The revised bill decided by the Cabinet will change the delivery obligation of the post office from "6 days or more a week" to "5 days or more a week" and abolish the delivery of ordinary mail on Saturdays except express delivery and Yu-Pack.

While the number of deliveries is increasing due to the spread of online shopping, etc., the labor shortage continues, so by abolishing delivery on Saturday, we aim to improve the working environment of delivery staff and continue stable service.

Regarding this amendment, due to the inappropriate sales problem at Japan Post Insurance, it has been postponed to the Diet because it is necessary for the Japan Post Group to concentrate on dealing with customers.
