Gao Feng, spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce, introduced at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Commerce today that in the first three quarters of this year, the situation of my country's online retail market continued to improve, driving the momentum of consumption.

In the first three quarters, the national online retail sales exceeded 8 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.7%. The online retail sales of physical goods reached 6.6 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 15.3%, accounting for 24.3% of the total retail sales of consumer goods, an increase from the same period last year 4.8 percentage points.

Online retail is accelerating the digital transformation of market players, giving birth to new business forms and models, improving the efficiency of the industrial chain, supply chain, and value chain, and fostering new momentum for the digital economy.

  On the whole, my country's online retail market showed the following characteristics in the first three quarters:

  First, new hot spots for online consumption continue to emerge.

Healthy consumption and green consumption have become new trends in online consumption.

New models that combine entertainment and consumption, such as live e-commerce and content e-commerce, are favored by consumers.

The "contactless" model has become an important channel for goods and services to reach consumers directly.

  The second is that e-commerce accelerates the development of digital industry.

Through the C2M model, large-scale e-commerce companies use online data, technology, and creativity to feed back physical companies to create "intelligent manufacturing platforms" to promote innovation, reduce costs, and make up for shortcomings.

The Ministry of Commerce continues to promote the construction of a national e-commerce public service platform, launches an action to benefit the people and enterprises, aggregate service resources such as data, training, credit, and talent, and provide free services to market players to help enterprises, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, in their digital transformation.

  Third, rural e-commerce maintains a good momentum of development.

According to business big data monitoring, the country’s rural online retail sales reached 1.2 trillion yuan in the first three quarters, a year-on-year increase of 7.8%.

The national online retail sales of agricultural products was 288.41 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 34.3%.

The Ministry of Commerce deeply promoted the comprehensive demonstration of e-commerce in rural areas, created an "upgraded version" of comprehensive demonstrations, and actively carried out brand building and promotion activities for agricultural specialty products in Guangxi, Hebei, Qinghai and other places to promote the continuous growth of rural online retail.

  Fourth, cross-border e-commerce promotes the quality and upgrade of foreign trade.

Driven by policies such as the "expansion" of the cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zone and the pilot B2B export supervision, cross-border e-commerce maintained a good growth momentum.

Business big data monitoring of key e-commerce retail import platforms shows that cross-border e-commerce retail imports have increased by more than 17% year-on-year.

In terms of countries of origin, imports from Japan, the United States, and Australia rank among the top three, accounting for 16.3%, 15.1% and 8.9%, respectively.

In terms of categories, cosmetics, cereals, oils, foods, clothing, footwear and hats are the top three in terms of import volume, accounting for 32.7%, 24.4% and 12.9% respectively.

  Fifth, the consumption of online services has accelerated.

As my country has achieved major strategic results in the prevention and control of the epidemic, the growth of online service consumption has continued to pick up.

Business big data monitoring shows that in the third quarter, online catering increased by nearly 10% year-on-year, and the growth rate of online travel turned from negative to positive.
