"There are three basic steps that governments must take to accelerate the gradual recovery of the global travel and tourism industry," said Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.

In a statement issued by Dubai Airports yesterday, Griffiths said, “These steps include adopting an accurate, fast and easy-to-manage joint test procedure that provides timely results for the detection of the (Covid-19) virus, while the second step is to develop an international protocol. A joint test, isolation and protection reduces the risk of infection before departure, during the flight and after arrival, while the third step focuses on concluding bilateral agreements between countries that agree to adopt these measures, to create sterile travel corridors and reassure travelers that their trips are safe.

He added that "these steps require a comprehensive view of the current situation of the travel and tourism sector around the world, and rapid and decisive measures are taken to protect the sector, while at the same time controlling and ensuring the non-spread of (Covid-19)," noting that technology is available and can help implement the three steps.

Griffiths stated that “the (Covid-19) pandemic has caused catastrophic losses in the tourism and travel sector around the world. Therefore, government agencies and the concerned authorities must make more efforts, move and take effective steps towards implementing these three steps, to accelerate the return of life to this sector. "Vital to the global economy, restoring confidence to travelers, and making travel safe again."

Griffiths pointed out that «the testing and isolation protocols around the world are not currently coordinated and create conditions under which it is impossible to carry out most trips. Therefore, we strongly call for these steps to be taken, to move forward in seeing the recovery return to this vital economic sector.

He stressed that «(Dubai airports) has come a way in this direction, and there are other cities working to sign such protocols bilaterally, and we hope that the circle will expand to include more cities soon."

Griffiths continued: "I think that a mandatory test for all travelers before departure is an acceptable alternative to travelers, and opinion polls confirm that most people support this measure, to make their lives easier and make their travel safer."

On the development of passenger traffic through Dubai International Airport, Griffiths said: “The airport’s traffic is witnessing a tangible improvement towards a gradual return to recovery since the closure period was canceled on June 22 and the way for tourists was opened on the seventh of July, and we are witnessing good growth rates month after month, We now serve the most prominent cities in more than 80 countries. ”

Dubai Airports has put in place multiple measures to ensure a safe environment for travelers and employees, including the placing of protective glass at check-in counters and passports, the application of remote thermal checks, in addition to signs of physical distancing, and increasing sterilization levels in most airport facilities.

Optimism

The CEO of Dubai Airports Corporation, Paul Griffiths, said: “We feel optimistic and signs of a gradual return to recovery in international travel are looming on the horizon. A safe and smooth travel experience for them, as we have always been. ”
