presents companies and craftsmen who, despite the confinement and the difficulties linked to the epidemic, have seen their activity grow or even explode.

  • For France Infrarouge, in Loire-Atlantique, requests for the installation of thermal cameras have poured in.

Before, we were content with one hand on the forehead when we had any doubts ... Today, the coronavirus epidemic is pushing us to be much more vigilant about fever, one of the main symptoms of the disease.

Enough to do the business of France Infrarouge: since the health crisis, this company located in Pontchâteau near Saint-Nazaire has installed dozens and dozens of small cameras that make it easy to measure the body temperature of people who come in front.

After three years of sluggish activity, the accounts of this company of 14 employees are back in the green.

Because from the start of containment, demand was strong from professionals who continued their production.

“We have received a lot of calls from large companies, in the chemical industry or aeronautics for example, who wanted to secure their workplace,” recalls Eric Le Corre, general manager.

Our cameras are suitable because they assess the temperature quickly and with great precision: thanks to the infrared matrix, they locate the hottest point of a face, even at a certain distance.

»What about data protection?

“There is no facial recognition and no recording”, wants to reassure the director.

Self-checking terminals

Very quickly, the company which resells but above all installs and sets up the equipment (American and Chinese), imagines two other solutions.

One, adapted to airports, allows an operator to identify on a screen all the people who have a high temperature, thanks to a small red square that is displayed.

“We have also deployed self-checking terminals,” continues Eric Le Corre.

They assess the temperature and detect whether the person has put on their mask or not.

This is a good option for offices: the employee is notified and goes home, or makes an appointment with the doctor.

»Since then, if demand has calmed down, France Infrarouge offers these rather expensive devices (from 5,000 to 15,000 euros) for hire, for example during sporting or cultural events.

Universes totally different from those in which society used to intervene before the crisis.

“Apart from during H1N1 or Ebola, we used thermal infrared cameras mainly in the context of industrial security, explains Lorianne Le Corre, marketing director.

The device detects any abnormal heating, which makes it possible to identify energy leaks and prevent, for example, a fire starting on an electrical panel.

It is also an anti-intrusion system.

"

With an activity linked to Covid which now represents a third of turnover, up 13%, France Infrarouge has just launched the recruitment of a new employee.

Today, it wishes to continue developing this “health” aspect, why not by proposing to equip all “at risk” places, such as retirement homes.
