China News Service reporter Zhang Wei

"In recent years, by adopting new varieties and new technologies, I have grown carrots and onions with better quality and higher yields. I can earn 400-1000 yuan more per mu of land than before." Zhang Xiaoping accepted an interview on the 23rd. At that time, the joy of harvest was revealed in the words.

In the late autumn, the happiest thing for farmers is the full harvest of grain.

Zhang Xiaoping of Huangyangcheng Village, Tiesagai Town, Chayouzhong Banner, Ulanchabu City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region ushered in another bumper year.

Inner Mongolia has turned "cold vegetables" into a "hot" industry by helping farmers realize the introduction and use of new agricultural varieties and technologies.

Inner Mongolia has vast arable land, a cold climate, cool summers with large temperature differences, plenty of sunshine, few diseases and insect pests, and unique ecological conditions that have created the characteristics of high dry matter content and good quality of cold vegetables in Inner Mongolia.

Zhang Xiaoping is a well-known local planter. This year he planted 300 mu of cold vegetables, mainly carrots and onions.

According to his estimates, the total income will be around 900,000 yuan.

Zhang Xiaoping introduced that two onion varieties he planted this year were new varieties cultivated by the Vegetable Research Institute of the Inner Mongolia Academy of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Sciences.

The yield per mu can reach more than 6000 kg, and the profit per mu is about 3000 yuan.

"Carrot planting adopts the high-ridge drip irrigation cultivation model of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, precise seeding with ropes, integration of drip irrigation with water and fertilizer, non-woven covering, soil improvement of microbial fertilizer, and green prevention and control. The yield is 4000 kg per mu. Above, the income per mu is about 3200 yuan."

In recent years, the cultivation of carrots, onions, pumpkins and other cold vegetables has become a supporting industry for farmers in Chayouzhong Banner to increase their income. The cold vegetable industry is also developing into an emerging industry in modern agriculture and animal husbandry in Inner Mongolia, driving the cold and poor areas of Inner Mongolia. More than 1.5 million farmers increased their incomes and became rich.

The reporter learned that at present, the planting scale of cold vegetables in Inner Mongolia has reached 2.8 million mu, forming a carrot, cabbage, broccoli, onion, cabbage, and celery industrial belt centered on Ulan Qab and Chifeng; An industrial belt for processing tomatoes and dehydrated peppers centered on Yannur City; an industrial belt for red dried peppers centered on Tongliao City.

These products have all obtained National Geographical Indications, and the scale of output value has exceeded 10 billion yuan.

According to official information from the Vegetable Research Institute of the Inner Mongolia Academy of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Sciences, over the years, the institute has bred 25 new varieties of cold and cold vegetables, obtained 36 national patents, standards, technical regulations, and new technology scientific research results. There are more than 500 vegetable varieties and more than 40 new technologies demonstrated.

Wang Yong, director of the Vegetable Research Institute of the Inner Mongolia Academy of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Sciences, and director of the Inner Mongolia Green Cold Vegetable Engineering Technology Research Center, said: “In the future, we will build a cold vegetable research and development team to promote and apply them on a large scale. The healthy and rapid development of the cold vegetable industry provides strong technical support." (End)
