Germany, one of the main source countries of tourists for Spain,

has decided to remove the Canary Islands from its list of risk destinations for Covid to travel.

This is a relief for the archipelago, which is precisely now in full high season.

According to sources from the Canary Islands Government confirmed to this newspaper, Germany adopted this decision on Wednesday in view of the "favorable epidemiological situation" in the Canary Islands.

This announcement also occurs at a time when the Government is negotiating tourist corridors with the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands.

The governments of the archipelagos agreed weeks ago a protocol to test tourists who arrive on their islands, both in their country of origin and at their destination, before returning.

They even promised to defray the expenses of a possible quarantine, in the event that the tourist tested positive before returning to their destination and had to stay on the islands in confinement.

However,

these protocols are useless if brokers are not agreed with the main issuing countries,

which, for Spain, are the United Kingdom and Germany.

Both countries have approved quarantines for travelers arriving from Spain.

Therefore, Germany removing the Canary Islands from its risk list is at least good news for

the archipelago, which began its peak season at the beginning of October.

Berlin will lift its recommendation not to travel to the islands from Saturday.

It is the second most important tourist source market for the Canary Islands, after the United Kingdom.

The rest of Spain is still on the risk map of Germany.
