"Emirates SkyCargo" continues to intensify its preparations to deal with the logistical complications for distributing the "Covid-19" vaccine that the world awaits, by establishing the first air cargo center in the world dedicated to the vaccine in Dubai.

The carrier occupies a leading position in the world by announcing the reopening of the "Sky Central" station at Al Maktoum International Airport to serve as a center dedicated to storing and distributing the vaccine globally.

Emirates SkyCargo, which is the cargo arm of Emirates Airlines, has formed a dedicated rapid response team to coordinate requests from various entities and bodies participating in the international system for the distribution of vaccines and the carrier to meet requests to transport vaccines.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Supreme President and CEO of Emirates Airlines and the Group, said: “Dubai is ideally located as a gateway and distribution center for vaccines (Covid-19) to the rest of the world.

We have the infrastructure, logistical connections, and a geographic location that puts markets of more than two-thirds of the world's population within an 8-hour flight radius.

For years, Emirates SkyCargo has been able to place Dubai on the list of major global pharmaceutical customers as a preferred transit point for their valuable shipments throughout the year, thanks to our continuous investment in capabilities and processes for transporting heat-sensitive medicines.

His Highness added: "The establishment of a center dedicated to vaccines (Covid-19) is an essential project that harnesses our network, our travels and our competencies in serving the lives of people all over the world."

The Emirates Air Cargo Vaccine Center will be at Al Maktoum International Airport, the largest air facility in the world, dedicated to "Covid-19" vaccines.

This center allows transporting vaccines from different manufacturing sites, storing shipments and preparing them for regional and global distribution.

And it includes "Sky Central" in "Dubai World Central", a designated area for storing medicines that can be controlled with temperature over an area of more than 4000 square meters.

This facility, which is certified by the "GDPRD Good Distribution Practices", enables the storage and distribution of potential COVID-19 vaccines.

The capacity of this facility is estimated at about 10 million bottles of vaccine at one time, in an environment with a constant temperature between 2-8 degrees Celsius.

The capabilities of the modern facility in Dubai World Central are enhanced by the world's largest fleet of reefer containers to help protect heat-sensitive cargo while it is transported between the aircraft and the cargo bay.

Also, the availability of a large number of berths for trucks that are temperature controlled and their proximity to aircraft stands will ensure fast and efficient handling of goods and their distribution to various global destinations.

In addition to refrigerated storage, Emirates SkyCargo will provide dedicated areas for value-added services, such as repackaging vaccines and enhancing their cooling, for distribution to its customers around the world.

Thanks to the large size of the facility, which can handle millions of vaccine doses, and the formation of a dedicated team to handle and fulfill orders, Emirates SkyCargo will be able to effectively handle huge orders and move them quickly as soon as the vaccine production and circulation begins.

The carrier will then be able, through regular and charter flights, to transport vaccines to the markets that will be in dire need.

Emirates SkyCargo employs decades of experience in transporting pharmaceutical products and temperature-controlled vaccines to global manufacturers to develop innovative solutions that will meet the challenge of distributing Covid-19 vaccines globally in a short time frame.

Since 2016, the tanker has invested heavily in developing its capacity to transport heat-sensitive medicines.

This included introducing the specialized Emirates Pharma product and developing a GDP-certified infrastructure in Dubai, as well as at points of origin and main destinations, as part of its "Medicines Corridors" program, which now covers more than 30 cities.

The total shipments of medicinal products carried by Emirates SkyCargo increased over a quarter of a million tons over the past four years.

Thanks to its fleet of modern wide-body aircraft and its network of routes, which currently cover more than 130 destinations across six continents, in addition to the strategic geographic location of its hub in Dubai, Emirates SkyCargo will be able to quickly transport vaccine supplies from manufacturing sites to destinations in various regions of the world. On its regular and passenger flights.

It is noteworthy that Emirates SkyCargo has worked over the past few months to restore its global network, and resumed services to 75 destinations in May, and the number of destinations increased to 100 by July, and then to about 135 destinations by early October.

The Emirates Air Cargo Network covers all areas that include centers of pharmaceutical products and major manufacturing sites around the world, which will facilitate the transportation of the "Covid-19" vaccine once its successful production begins.
