Detection of intense fraud activities that accompanied the launch of "iPhone 12" ... and measures to avoid them

The attention that Apple's annual event held last week to launch its new iPhone 12 lineup was not limited to the users of this famous phone, but rather went beyond them to include digital fraudsters, even more this time.

Kaspersky said in a statement today, that during the first nine months of this year, it noticed the continued interest of fraudsters in the users of "Apple" devices and their accounts.

The company’s researchers found, for example, 100 suspicious “web” pages around the world every month that contain the name “Apple” in their addresses, and most of them require users to enter an Apple account username and password.

Soon, the number of these pages increased in September, reaching 1,950 pages by the end of the month.

Kaspersky experts were able to know the goals of these pages by analyzing their names. Some offer to find lost phones, others provide assistance in restoring users the ability to access their accounts, while there are phishing sites that mimic Apple's support services.

It is likely that these pages were created with the intention of stealing user accounts, but they did not function properly and became like pieces of software junk.

Experts have found that scammers like to use these pages to backup, so they activate a page when another active page is blocked.

Kaspersky's security expert, Tatiana Sidorina, called on "Apple" users to be more cautious, saying that "the return of fraudsters 'interest in (Apple) services indicates that they will be happy to take advantage of everything that may attract users' attention."

"The launch of the new (iPhone) phone could be an ideal opportunity for fraudsters to spread more malicious capabilities," she added.

Kaspersky recommends that users take the following measures to avoid becoming victims of fraud:

The need to question any promotional offers that seem generous than usual.

Verify that the emails are coming from reliable sources.

Avoid clicking on links contained in suspicious e-mails or instant messaging programs and social media sites.

Check the integrity of web pages before visiting them.

Install a security solution linked to updated databases that include information on the latest phishing sites and spam.
