A recent report by the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority showed that the total number of citizens working in various occupations in the country at the end of 2019 increased by 12.5%.

In detail, the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority revealed, in a recent report, that the total number of citizens working in different professions in the country at the end of 2019 amounted to 356,742 male and female citizens, compared to 317,164 male and female citizens at the end of 2018, an increase of 12.5%.

The authority stated in the report, which Emirates Today obtained a copy of, that 44 thousand and 270 male and female citizens work as senior employees, managers and legislators, and they constitute 12.4% of the total number of citizens working in various professions in the country at the end of 2019, compared to 44 thousand and 43 citizens at the end of the year 2018.

The authority added that the number of citizens working in the functional areas that require high skills increased from 307,420 citizens in 2018 to 346,271 citizens at the end of 2019, with a total of 38,851 male and female citizens, an increase of 12.6%.

Technicians and specialists

According to the report, the number of male and female citizens who work as “technicians” and “specialization assistants” reached 89,790 male and female citizens, compared to 95,229 male and female citizens in 2018.

The report showed that 80 thousand and 277 male and female citizens work as “specialists” at a rate of 22.5% of the total number of Emirati workers at the end of 2019, compared to 67 thousand and 863 male and female citizens at the end of 2018.

Sales and services

The Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority stated that 75,622 male and female citizens work in the areas of sales and services, at a rate of 21.2% of the total at the end of 2019, compared to 62,173 male and female citizens at the end of 2018.

56,312 male and female citizens work as “support office employees,” accounting for 15.8% of the total employed citizens at the end of 2019, compared to 38,112 male and female citizens at the end of 2018.

Craft occupations

The authority’s statistics pointed out that there is a decline in the number of citizens who work in craft professions that require manual skills, as their number decreased to 4706 male and female citizens at the end of 2019 compared to 6183 male and female citizens at the end of 2018, with a decrease of 1,477 male and female citizens, the rate of 23.8%.

Statistics indicate that the number of working citizens “factory operators, machines and assembly lines” decreased to 2870 male and female citizens at the end of 2019 compared to 3498 male and female citizens at the end of 2018, who constituted 0.8% of the employed citizens at the end of 2019.

The number of craftsmen and related professions decreased to 1426 male and female citizens at the end of 2019, who constituted 0.4% of the total employed citizens at the end of 2019, compared to 1,860 male and female citizens at the end of 2018.

Agriculture and fish

The report revealed that 324 citizens employed skilled workers in agriculture, forestry and fishing at the end of 2019, at 0.09% of the total employed, compared to 348 citizens at the end of 2018, while 86 citizens worked in “primary occupations” that did not require any skills, at 0.02% of the total.
