Prime Minister Jean Castex said Thursday afternoon that all French restaurants should now apply a reinforced health protocol, until then reserved for areas on "maximum alert".

Here is what you need to know about this organization supposed to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

Restaurants in areas on "maximum alert" in the face of the coronavirus had already had to put it in place: now, all restaurateurs in France will have to apply a reinforced health protocol.

"All restaurants in France will apply the health protocol which was recently strengthened and provides in particular for the limitation to six of the number of customers per table" as well as "the registration of the names of customers to facilitate 'contact tracing'", announced Jean Castex the day after the announcement of the establishment of a night curfew in certain areas.

Distancing and hygiene measures

The restaurant owner must make hydroalcoholic gel available on all tables and not only inside the establishment.

He must maintain a distance of one meter "between the chairs" of the different groups of guests.

For their part, diners must keep their mask most of the time, except when eating the dishes.

Groups of guests are limited to six (including children) against ten currently.

This limitation risks preventing "many establishments, already weakened by a very significant drop" in their attendance, from "maintaining a sufficient level of activity", the professional organizations Umih (hotel and catering ), GNI (independents), SNRTC (thematic and commercial catering), GNC (hotel chains), which pleaded for tables of eight at the beginning of October.

Payment at the table is preferred and customers are encouraged to make reservations to avoid crowds around restaurants.

A contact book in establishments

Restaurant customers must leave their name, phone number and possibly their email address in a contact book.

They can thus be warned by Health Insurance in the event of detection of a case of Covid-19 in a consumer who came to the establishment on the same date as them.

Reinforced controls

The restaurant owner must display, outside his establishment, a gauge indicating the total capacity of reception of this one, in order to facilitate any checks.

In order to ensure that these reinforced protocols are respected, the government has planned that an "accelerated procedure" can be put in place to close the establishments in violation, he had specified in early October.
