  When the Beidou system was just getting started around 2000, GPS had already formed a mature application. There was a huge gap and we had to catch up.

  "As of 2013, Beidou's positioning is still calculated in minutes. This is because satellite positioning requires calculation of relative position." Liu Xu said, this information called "ephemeris data" needs to be obtained from satellites. For direct download, the satellite is too high and the playback intensity is weak. It takes at least 30-50 seconds for the ground and the satellite to "know" each other's position, and then it will take longer to solve.

  Such positioning time is difficult to meet daily needs, and users simply cannot accept it, let alone achieve competition with GPS.

  Since the "longest board" of positioning time is the acquisition of "ephemeris data", then the "pain point" must be hit directly to shorten the positioning time significantly.

  Is it possible not to download the ephemeris data from the satellite?

The answer is yes.

Liu Xu explained that if there is a platform that puts the required ephemeris data on the server, ground positioning requests can be directly accessed by the server, which will greatly reduce the time.

"A file with ephemeris data less than 1KB can be transmitted in milliseconds. In the end, the positioning can be successful in three or four seconds."

  In 2018, China's high-precision location network and its major applications in the transportation field won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, including the research of network-assisted rapid first positioning technology.
