Kévin Pereira mistakenly received a contemptuous response from an OCS recruiter, initially intended for his colleagues.

A blatant case of discrimination in hiring which angered this young man.

He tells Europe 1 this episode that he would have preferred not to experience.

TESTIMONY

"Another Portuguese Kevin, in addition apparently he is in prison": this is not the answer that Kévin Pereira expected to his candidacy at OCS but it is the one he received.

On Wednesday, he applied for an internship with the streaming platform.

In the process, instead of a traditional response, he mistakenly receives an email from the recruiter intended for his colleagues, a message in very bad taste mocking his first name, his Portuguese origin and his place of residence, Fleury-Mérogis, a well-known town. for his prison.

The 23-year-old's misadventure caused a stir on social networks and the story, a blatant example of discrimination in hiring, will not end there.

"I have a master's 2 'Digital, media and cinema' from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, I have just completed a first end-of-study internship and I was looking for another. I sent my application for an editorial assistant internship with my CV and letter of recommendation ", Kévin Pereira tells Europe 1. It is 12:06 when he sends his email and… 12:07 when the answer arrives.

Obviously, the young man is surprised.

"It made me angry right away actually. I didn't understand, at first I thought it was a joke, a joke, I really didn't understand."

OCS apologizes, possible sanction under consideration

Once he grasps the implications of the message, Kevin feels anger rising in him.

"It's serious to be judged like that! I don't even know if he looked at my CV. He saw my address, my name… I made a cover letter one page long. is sure he has not read it ", he denounces.

"This is the first time this has happened to me, I had never felt this before. It happens to me because I have Portuguese origins, okay okay. But what must it be? for other students of North African origin, for example? This kind of behavior is really unacceptable in business. "

Hello @OCSTV are you not ashamed?

I send an application at 12:06, at 12:07 I receive a response intended for other employees which alludes to my origins and my address (Fleury Mérogis in the 91) ??

The origin and the provenance are still selection criteria ??

Under the shock of emotion, Kévin posted on Twitter a screenshot of the email exchange, "to make OCS react".

Contacted by Europe 1, the streaming platform evokes "individual behavior that does not reflect the values of the company".

Management, who apologized to Kevin through the voice of the Director of Human Resources, asked the employee to do the same.

A meeting between the recruiter and the candidate must be organized for this purpose.

As for a possible sanction, OCS specifies "to study the appropriate disciplinary voices".

Kevin has received many messages of support, including one, he said, from the government spokesperson.
