The UAE has affirmed its commitment to support international efforts to encourage and recover the tourism sector and improve the safe travel experience, in parallel with adhering to global recommendations on responding to the "Covid-19" pandemic.

This came during the state’s participation in the meeting of tourism ministers of the G20 countries, which was held recently by virtue of the presidency of Saudi Arabia, and the state was represented in the meeting by the Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises, Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi.

Al Falasi said: “In light of the unusual conditions that the world is going through, as a result of the spread of the (Covid-19) pandemic, there are many transformations and changes that have occurred not only in the tourism sector, but also on the various daily activities and behaviors of billions of people around the world.”

He added: “We in the UAE believe that there is an opportunity generated with every challenge, and that exposure to shocks makes us stronger and resilient in the face of crises, so we are confident that the tourism sector, although it is the most affected by this global pandemic, will return stronger, faster and more flexible in facing Future challenges ».

Al Falasi pointed out that tourism is one of the main engines of the comprehensive development of society, as it contributes to the diversification and protection of natural and cultural resources, explaining that the travel and tourism sector accounted for 10.3% of global GDP, and 330 million jobs (direct and indirect) in a year. 2019.

He stressed that support and incentive policies for travel and tourism companies and airlines are still necessary to ensure their ability to maintain their business, and to continue efforts to facilitate the experience of safe, smooth and sustainable travel, as they are key steps for recovery, in addition to the pivotal role in relying on advanced technology and digital transformation in the recovery and business continuity of the sector.
