Corona Countermeasures Delivery Robot Demonstration Experiment on Public Road Driving Japan Post October 7, 14:06

On the 7th, Japan Post released to the press a demonstration experiment in which a robot dedicated to delivery travels on public roads and delivers packages as a countermeasure against the new coronavirus.

The robot used in the experiment was a delivery robot developed by a venture company that can carry packages weighing up to 30 kg while checking the surrounding conditions with cameras and sensors.

On the 7th, a demonstration experiment on a public road using this robot was opened to the press.

At the Tokyo Teishin Hospital in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, the robot was loaded with luggage and carried to the Kojimachi Post Office 700 meters away in about 20 minutes with the attendants.

Delivery by robot is expected to be a countermeasure against the new coronavirus because it reduces contact with customers, and it is also expected to solve the labor shortage.

According to Japan Post, this is the first demonstration experiment on a public road, and we are aiming for early commercialization by conducting a demonstration experiment to remotely monitor the running of the robot within this month.

Yoshihiro Gomi, General Manager of the Japan Post Operations Reform Department, said, "Although there are technical and institutional issues, we would like to work on it from the point where it can be put into practical use in the next three years."
