The Oxaz hood was developed in Hérault -

Oxaz

  • The Oxaz company has created a retractable hood for outings in nature.

  • It fits over any backpack, and unfolds or folds up.

  • It is as resistant to rain as a tent, snow, and wind up to 80 km / h, and protects from the sun.

And it leaves the head free, which does not touch the textile.

An umbrella is cumbersome.

A cap flies away.

And a traditional hood, that can be a bit awkward when hiking.

Based on this observation, the start-up Oxaz, based in Lunel (Hérault), has developed an astonishing retractable hood, with the appearance of a shell, which will delight lovers of outings in nature.

"I am very passionate about nature, and I have always noticed that traditional hoods were neither practical nor comfortable", confides Pierre Lagandré, the founder of Oxaz, former deputy general manager of the Compagnie du vent.

Three years were necessary for the design of this new tool.

Its name: Overcap.

Against rain, snow, wind and sun

This Hérault invention adapts to any backpack, and unfolds and folds up like a car hood, depending on the weather conditions, thanks to "thin frames inserted into the fabric", notes its creator.

It is as resistant to rain as a tent, snow, and wind up to 80 km / h, and protects from the sun.

And it leaves the head, which does not touch the textile, free of any movement.

"Your head is like under a small shelter, and remains ventilated", continues Pierre Lagandré.

And the hood can even be completed with a mosquito net, for lovers of walks in swampy areas.

"It is an ideal product for people who practice immersion in nature, such as fishermen, hikers, or people who observe or monitor natural phenomena", notes the founder.

A mosquito net can be added to the hood - Oxaz

At the end of June, the company launched a pre-order operation on the Indiegogo platform (here).

It is still in progress.

About a hundred hoods have already been ordered.

Production is about to launch, and the first Overcaps will arrive in February.

Its price: 85 euros for pre-order.
