  Recently, the academician Yuan Longping’s workstation in Xing’an League of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is located on the salt-tolerant rice planting base. It is composed of the National Hybrid Rice Engineering Technology Research Center, Hunan Rice Research Institute, Jiangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Wuhan University and other scientific research institutions. The yield is measured on saline-alkali land with a pH value of 8.8-9.6 and a salinity content of 5‰-6‰. The yield of saline-alkali-tolerant rice per mu is 533.95 kg.

  Talking about the "grassland dream" of the Xing'an League Academician Yuan Longping's workstation, Zhang Yuzhu, deputy director of the China National Hybrid Rice Engineering Technology Research Center, said that the Xing'an League will be built into a new granary in northern China.

  Xing'an League is located in the ecological circle of the southern foot of the Greater Xing'an Mountains at 46°north latitude, and is recognized as the golden rice belt in cold regions in the world.

Among the existing cultivated land in Xing'an League, there are more than 1.6 million mu of saline-alkali land.

  In 2018, the expert workstation of Academician Yuan Longping was inaugurated in Xing'an League. Yuan Longping led a team of experts to build a 960 acres of saline-alkali-tolerant rice base in Keyouzhong Banner.

In 2019, the average yield of the saline-alkali-tolerant rice per mu was 508.8 kg; in 2020, the saline-alkali-tolerant rice base was expanded to 1,800 mu, with a yield of 533.95 kg per mu.

  Yuan Longping said that if the Xing'an League at 46° north latitude can successfully plant saline-alkali-tolerant rice, then Heilongjiang, Jilin, Xinjiang, and Ningxia can all succeed.

"I have a'great' plan to promote 100 million mu of saline-alkali land throughout China, with a minimum yield of 300 kg per mu, and a total output of 30 billion kg."

  "What is the concept of 30 billion kilograms? It is equivalent to the annual grain production of Hunan Province, a major food province in China, which can feed 80 million to 100 million people." Yuan Longping told reporters.

  The reporter learned that saline-alkali soil means that the salt contained in the soil affects the normal growth of crops, and plants in severely saline-alkali soil areas can hardly survive.

According to the incomplete statistics of UNESCO and FAO, the area of ​​saline land in the world is 95438 million hectares, of which 99.13 million hectares are in China.

  "At present, the initial trial production has been successful and the prospects are very bright." Yuan Longping firmly believes that through everyone's efforts, the salt-tolerant rice can be promoted to higher yields and make new contributions to China's grain production.

  At the beginning of 2020, Yuan Longping launched the "Yuan Meng Project". Based on the two dreams of "rice yielding over 1,000 kilograms per mu" and "hybrid rice covering the world", he started his third dream: planting rice on saline-alkali-tolerant land. .

  "Post-90s" Yuan Longping has never failed his dream. He said that in the next three years, 200,000 mu of saline-tolerant rice will be planted in Xing'an League.

  Now, this dream is being realized step by step.

  Zhang Yuzhu told reporters that next, the academician workstation will expand the demonstration results on the land of Xing'an League, increase scientific research, and make salt-tolerant rice more productive.
