Keidanren proposes digital policy command tower organization to Cabinet Secretariat September 30, 19:21

Keidanren has submitted a proposal to the Minister for Digital Reform Hirai that an organization that will serve as a powerful command tower should be established in the Cabinet Secretariat in preparation for the establishment of the "Digital Agency" that the government is aiming for.

In response, Minister Hirai requested cooperation from the private sector, saying that he would hire human resources to the Digital Agency.

The government plans to set up the "Digital Reform-related Bill Preparation Office" in the IT General Strategy Office of the Cabinet Secretariat on the 30th for the establishment of the "Digital Agency" and submit the bill necessary for the ordinary Diet session next year.

Under these circumstances, the Minister in charge of Digital Reform Hirai and Hiromichi Shinohara, Vice Chairman of Keidanren, met, and the Keidanren side handed "Proposals for the establishment of the Digital Agency" to Minister Hirai.

The proposal states that "it is necessary to centrally bundle Japan's digital policies," and that the "Digital Agency" should be positioned as an executive organization that promotes national and local digital policies.

On top of that, the Cabinet Secretariat is requested to establish the "Cabinet Digital Bureau" as a command tower to centrally plan all digital policies including the private sector.

In response, Minister Hirai said, "I would like the Digital Agency to take charge of policy making, but I would like to discuss what kind of organization should be used to maximize the effect even if it is small." I did.

After that, he asked Keidanren for his cooperation, saying, "I would like to ask for your cooperation in promoting from the private sector."
