Full-scale development of plant-derived foods such as Aeon's "alternative meat" on September 30 at 14:41

Aeon, a major distributor, has announced that it will develop pasta sauces and noodles using plant-derived ingredients and will start full-scale development from next month.

While it has been pointed out that Japanese companies are lagging behind in the efforts of Japanese companies for plant-derived foods compared to overseas, it will be watched whether it will support the spread.

Aeon will start selling as a private brand next month for "alternative meat" pasta sauce that reproduces a meat-like texture using soybeans and pasta made from beans and brown rice without using wheat. There are 3 types of products such as noodles.

In addition, hamburgers made from substitute meat, which had been on sale at some stores since March, will be fully rolled out at stores nationwide.

Plant-derived foods are said to emit less greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide than feeding livestock and eating them as meat. In the United States, major hamburger chains sell products using alternative meats worldwide. It is becoming more and more popular.

It has been pointed out that companies in Japan are behind in their efforts compared to overseas, and it will be watched whether the full-scale entry of major distribution companies will help spread the word in Japan.

Koji Wada, General Manager of Marketing Division of AEON TOPVALU, said, "Since the market has just been created, we are considering how much ingredients we can put in. If consumers do not accept it, the market will shrink, so we also emphasize taste and price. I want to proceed with the efforts while doing so. "
