Today is

the first day that some transport trucks from many breweries have been on the streets since March

.

They have not done it to distribute merchandise, but to participate in the caravan-protest that the hospitality industry had called this morning in Madrid, a sector on which 70% depend.

The crisis that the hospitality industry is experiencing as a result of the pandemic does not only affect bars, restaurants and hotels.

Also to

coffee makers, breweries, canning companies, wineries, fruit and vegetable companies, manufacturers of tableware,

drinking

straws

, restaurant furniture ... The sector wanted to make visible today the importance of the sector and the impact it has on the chain of value, in suppliers and manufacturers that, in total, add up to 6% of GDP.

"Almost sounding the campaign, we have been included in that agreement to extend the ERTE. But

there are many measures left, we need a rescue plan for the hotel industry.

We would have liked the extension of the ERTE to be in another way, more homogeneous", points out José Luis Yzuel, president of Hospitality of Spain, which groups more than 320,000 establishments in Spain, almost all of them.

A large caravan of more than 200 cars, vans and trucks from all the companies that make up the sector

have paraded from Madrid's Parque del Oeste to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism,

where as they passed, they showed their discontent with a whistle.

ERTE

One of the demands that the hospitality industry had, that they be included in the extension of the ERTE that the Council of Ministers approved today, has been addressed, although they consider that this measure is insufficient to support one of the sectors most affected by the health crisis.

They estimate that between now and December a third of the country's bars will close if no action is taken.

"We fight to protect jobs and that is why this step is important, but it is insufficient, we need to move forward to achieve a rescue plan that ensures the survival of the sector," said Yzuel.

"Without this agreement it would have been a catastrophe. It would have jettisoned the effort made in these months," said Juan José Blardony, general director of Hospitality Madrid, in statements to Europa Press.

As an example,

only in the Community of Madrid, right now the region most affected by the pandemic, 79.5% of the

hotel and catering establishments

have opened

, which are billing less than 50% compared to the previous year.

The hoteliers

regret that they are criminalized

and blamed for the outbreaks (as is the case of nightlife), they insist that they generate more than 6% of the national wealth and employ more than 1.5 million people and directly demand and lost funds to avoid the closure of thousands of businesses.
