Covid-19. KN95 masks will stop being sold in Spain from October
The Ministry of
Consumption
has ordered to withdraw two models of
mask
from the market
for not justifying in their documentation the antiviral and bacterial filtering properties that they claim to possess, according to
Facua
reports
.
Specifically, these are the
Disposable Protective Mask
hygienic masks
of the Tonqchen Wexin Labor Protection brand and the
Premium Disposable Face Mask model JL-1-CE
, without a known brand.
The first one indicates on the packaging that it has the property "Antivirus" but does not justify it with documentation, so "
there is an obvious risk to health
".
In the second case, it appears on the packaging that it has the ability to filter bacteria, but it does not justify it anyway.
It also has properties of a PPE, such as the CE marking, but again it does not justify it in the documentation.
Both alerts have been notified by the competent authorities of the
Junta de Extremadura
, and are dated August 11 and 17, respectively.
These two masks join the announcement this Wednesday by the Ministry of Industry that
KN95 masks will stop being marketed in Spain
this October.
The resolution that the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism issued on April 23, allowing its use due to "the current situation of shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)", expires on September 30.
From this date, only those that have the European Conformity (CE) marking may be sold.
The "temporary authorization" that the Government ordered in April, coinciding with an increase in the death toll from
coronavirus
in Spain, included the sale of Personal Protective Equipment (not only masks, but also gloves, eye protection equipment, etc.) even though the evaluation procedures had not been fully carried out "according to harmonized standards".
The US (NIOSH-42CFR84), Chinese (GB2626-2006), Australian (AS / NZ 1716: 2012), Korean (KMOEL - 2017-64) and Japanese (Japan JMHLW-Notification 214, 2018) specifications, which were previously required "accept" due to the Covid situation, they are the ones that will definitely disappear from the stores.
