The gap is as high as 500,000 to 1 million, and there is a serious shortage of practical talents

—— The demand for cyber security talents is bullish

During the 2020 National Cyber Security Propaganda Week Summit Forum held recently, experts and business people at the conference called for the shortage of talents as one of the main problems facing the national cyber security industry. It is necessary to vigorously cultivate practical and practical cyber security talents.

"Under the background of the technological explosion, new infrastructure has posed more new challenges to security, and the speed of network security personnel training, security technology and development concepts cannot keep up with the speed of technological explosion." Chairman of Beijing Yongxin Zhicheng Technology Co., Ltd. Cai Jingjing said that currently there are only more than 20,000 graduates in cybersecurity-related majors each year, and China has a gap of 500,000 to 1 million in this area, especially for practical and practical talents.

Wu Jianping, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, also said that strengthening basic research and mastering core technologies is the key to solving cyberspace security issues. Cyberspace security competition is actually a competition for high-level talents, but high-level talents are currently scarce in my country.

The National Cyber Security Talents and Innovation Base and Qi’anxin Group jointly released the “Network Security Talent Market Status Research Report” that 90% of employers’ demand for cyber security talents is “bullish” and believes that this demand will grow in the medium and long term, of which 58 % Of employers believe that the demand for cyber security talents will increase substantially in the short term.

At the same time, the geographical imbalance of supply and demand is the main feature of the current distribution of cyber security talents.

According to statistics, the demand and supply of cyber security talents are mostly concentrated in first-tier cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. Among them, the city with the largest demand for talents is Beijing, accounting for 29.1%; and job seekers located in Beijing accounting for 57.8%.

"People are the core of security, and the last mile of network security is to solve people's problems." Cai Jingjing believes that to plug the system loopholes in the shooting range, rather than the "battlefield", a large number of technical personnel are needed to complete the work. There is a huge gap. It is recommended to strengthen the training of talents in colleges and universities, encourage more colleges and universities to add majors related to network security construction, and increase the number of students enrolled.

It is worth noting that in recent years, various regions are increasing the training of cyber security talents.

Fan Yuan, Chairman of Anheng Information, said that as more colleges and universities offer cybersecurity-related majors and the school-running model continues to mature, the number and quality of students at school have improved.

At the same time, the promulgation of various cybersecurity laws and regulations, as well as the cybersecurity needs associated with digital services driven by new infrastructure, will surely promote the structural reform of the cybersecurity talent supply side and promote the healthy development of cybersecurity talent training.

Wang Zhijian, chairman of Tus Net Security, revealed that in order to solve the talent gap in the cyber security industry, the company assisted in the construction of a national cyber security talent and innovation base, and set up a team to prepare for the operation of the training center of the cyber security base. Network security management, technology, practical training, and awareness training to effectively improve the network security and informatization literacy and capabilities of civil servants.

At the same time, various forms of training such as theoretical study, confrontation training, and offensive and defensive drills are provided for cyber security practitioners to vigorously solve the problem of social talent gap in the construction of national cyber security.

In addition to the shortage of talents, the industry also has the problem of "difficult use" of talents.

Cai Jingjing said, “There is a serious shortage of practical talents, and talent training cannot keep up with the speed of technological development.” He suggested that the training of talents should focus on practicality.

In fact, the scarcity of cyber security talents is inseparable from the fact that offensive and defensive experience is separated from the actual scene and lacks systemicity.

Many industry experts believe that the current demand for talents in the security industry is strong, and it takes a long time to train an outstanding network security professional. It requires years of systematic experience in rich actual business scenarios.

Chen Doudou, director of the National Cyber Security Talents and Innovation Base Office, said that the actual level of operation is an important criterion for measuring cyber security talents. Therefore, in the training of cyber security talents, communication and cooperation with cyber security companies should be strengthened, and students should participate more through school-enterprise cooperation. In the actual projects of the company, the "battlefield" should be used as an examination room, and at the same time, more experts and technical personnel from the company should be invited to teach students to shorten the distance between talent training and the actual application of the company.

Cai Jingjing suggested that more active policies be introduced to promote network security education to pay more attention to practicability. At the same time, enterprise users should deeply participate in talent building, and conduct practical talent training through network range exercises, crowd testing, and competition selection.
