Xinhua News Agency, Moscow, September 22 (Reporter Leo) China Railway Construction International Group recently signed a contract for the fifth section of the Moscow-Kazan Expressway project with a contract value of 58.26 billion rubles, or about 5.2 billion yuan.

This is the first time that a Chinese company has signed a key national highway project in Russia.

  Meng Tao, general manager of China Railway Construction International Group's Eurasian Regional Company, introduced that the Moscow-Kazan highway will connect the Russian capital Moscow and Kazan, passing through Moscow, Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod regions.

After completion, the road journey from Moscow to Kazan will be shortened from 12 hours to 6.5 hours.

The total length of the highway is 729 kilometers and is divided into 8 bid sections. The fifth bid section signed by Railway Construction International is 107 kilometers long. The main construction content is survey and design, construction of subgrade and pavement, construction of culverts and bridges along the line, and tolls. The construction of supporting service areas such as stations, gas stations, etc., and the overall highway is expected to be completed in 2024.

  It is reported that the Moscow-Kazan highway is a component of the Russian section of the "Western Europe-Western China" ("Shuangxi Highway") international road transport corridor.

The "Shuangxi Highway" starts from Lianyungang, China in the east and St. Petersburg, Russia in the west, passing through dozens of cities in China, Kazakhstan and Russia, with a total length of 8445 kilometers.

Currently, this project has been included in the comprehensive plan for modernization and expansion of the Russian Federation’s transportation infrastructure.

  In 2017, China Railway Construction won the Moscow Metro construction contract for the first time, undertaking the construction of the southwestern section of the third transfer ring line of the Moscow Metro.

In February 2019, China Railway Construction won the contract for the construction of large-diameter shield tunnels for the east section of the third transfer ring of the Moscow Metro, and in April of the same year, it won the construction contract for the 3-station and 3-shield section of the Moscow Metro Southwest Line project. .
