SNCF (Société nationale des chemins de fer français), the French public operator that will become Renfe's first competitor, today announced a rapid expansion of its services in Spain from March 15 with an aggressive commercial strategy that promises to

reduce 50% the prices of high speed in Spain.

The initial offer will begin next Thursday with the offer of 10,000 tickets to one euro for those who buy the tickets through the web.

SNCF will bring its services to Spain under the

Ouigo

brand

, double-decker trains with 509 seats with which it has already operated in France for seven years

and which represent the railroad what low cost in the airlines.

In March 2015, Ouigo will operate only between Madrid and Barcelona and then offer trips from Madrid to destinations such as

Valencia, Malaga or Seville

.

In total,

the Alstom train fleet will add 14 units, that is, 7,196 seats per day.

In the longer term, the intention is to scale this offer up to 30,000 places per day.

The company, directed in Spain by Hélene Valenzuela, will employ a total of 1,300 workers between direct and indirect jobs.

"There is room for more trains in Spain", considers the French company, which reaches the second largest high-speed network in the world and at the same time the least used.

The frequencies between Madrid and Barcelona will be five a day to the three destinations that it plans to occupy.

Valenzuela has not specified details about what, in euros, the average ticket will cost and neither the schedules that these trains will have, which will stop in Zaragoza and Tarragona.

"We want to popularize high speed, for people to replace their car, bus or plane," said Valenzuela.

The competition thus enters the high speed.

Although the French operator promises these discounts, presumably its reference is the AVE.

Renfe has already prepared its low-cost AVLO service, which will cost between 10 and 60 euros,

depending on demand and the schedule, although it will be 5 euros for children under 14 years of age.

The launch of this service was suspended by Renfe due to the outbreak of the coronavirus last March.
