As the movement toward digitization of society accelerates, the Japanese Bankers Association has begun full-scale examination of a mechanism that allows users to read QR codes with smartphones and pay taxes such as automobile tax even from home.

When paying local taxes such as automobile tax and property tax to local governments, it is often necessary to bring the payment slip to a bank counter or convenience store to pay.

Regarding this tax payment procedure, the Japanese Bankers Association has begun to consider a mechanism for paying taxes by cashless payment using a QR code.

We are assuming a mechanism that allows you to read the QR code printed on the payment slip sent by the local government with a smartphone etc. and pay through an electronic payment application etc.

This means that taxpayers can save the trouble of going to banks and convenience stores, and banks and local governments can reduce the labor and cost of sorting paper payment slips.

According to the association, when converting transportation costs and waiting time at the counter into monetary amounts, taxpayers are required to pay more than 200 billion yen annually due to payment of taxes and utility charges using payment slips. ..

The Japanese Bankers Association says, "Digitalization is required to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. We would like to coordinate with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and aim for early introduction."
