“This is a major infrastructure project, it is 97% complete,” she said at a hearing in the Bundestag.

The politician pointed to threats that come from Washington to the management and employees of the German port of Mukran. 

“They have not done anything illegal - they are arranging for the laying of the pipeline, which is legal by law,” Schleswig said.

Earlier, the mayor of the city of Sassnitz, Frank Kracht, in an interview with RT Deutsch, responded to the threat of US sanctions over the SP-2.

He noted that Europe should not allow such interference in economic issues.

According to him, such projects play an important role in the development of a small port city.
