Sino-Singapore Jingwei Client, September 16 (Zhang Yanzheng) "The wholesale price of chicken is lower than that of eggs", "100 yuan and 6 random picks"... The Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day are approaching, and many consumers find that the price of chicken has fallen sharply.

So, how are the operations of chicken wholesalers and farmers?

On September 15, a reporter from China-Singapore Jingwei visited Xinfadi, the largest agricultural product wholesale market in Beijing, and learned that fruit and vegetable wholesalers had resumed normal operations, but the poultry hall of Xinfadi was still closed.

The reporter called a number of poultry wholesalers in Xinfadi Market and learned that they have not yet received a notice of reopening.

Among them, Mr. Lu, a chicken wholesaler, told reporters, “Affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic in Beijing in June, many wholesalers around have returned to their hometowns, and all poultry trading business has not resumed.” However, there is already a convenient vegetable market in Xinfadi. Wholesalers are selling beef, mutton, chicken, etc.

"A chicken is less than 20 yuan"

"The wholesale price of three yellow chickens is 7 yuan a catty, and a chicken of more than 2 catties is less than 20 yuan, but the passenger flow is still not up." Wang Fan, a chicken wholesaler in Beijing Xinfadi, told the Zhongxin Jingwei reporter.

The reporter saw at the chicken sales booth that the price of three-yellow chicken was 7 yuan per catty, chai chicken was 9.5 yuan per catty, and black-bone chicken was 10.5 yuan.

In addition, the price of fresh chicken ribs is 7 yuan per catty, and the price of fresh chicken wings is 25 yuan per catty.

"Our wholesale market only resumed business at the end of last month. The price of chicken meat is adjusted every day according to the unified requirements of the Xinfadi market." Wang Fan replied while helping customers who came to shop to weigh and pack.

Wang Fan introduced that there are currently three salesmen in their booth. The working hours are from 1 am to 6 pm. The busiest stage is two or three in the morning. Purchasers from some small and medium restaurants and schools in Beijing will come to this market. Purchase fresh products such as chicken legs and wings that you need on the day.

"All the chicken wholesale merchants here buy from the farm designated by the government. For example, our chicken is purchased from the Baoding farm in Hebei. We report the required quantity to the other party in advance, and the other party will send the live chickens. Go to the local unified slaughterhouse for segmentation and cleaning, and special personnel are responsible for inspection and quarantine. Finally, the packed fresh chickens are frozen and transported to Beijing." Wang Fan said.

According to the fixed-point monitoring data of the country’s 500 county fairs by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, in the second week of September, the national average price of live chickens was 19.80 yuan/kg, a decrease of 0.2% from the previous week and a year-on-year decrease of 14.3%; the average price of white striped chickens 21.95 yuan/kg, the same as the previous week, a year-on-year decrease of 8.6%.

Can't sell the chicken?

Although the price of chicken is not high, the sales situation is not very optimistic.

Wang Fan said that customers used to buy a chicken at least 40 to 50 yuan before the holiday. Now the price of a chicken is about 20 yuan, but there is no hot sales phenomenon.

"From the point of view of the purchase price, the wholesaler can make more than one piece for selling a chicken. Our daily turnover is two to three thousand yuan, and the daily gross profit is not enough for three sales staff's salary after removing the purchase cost." Wang Fan said, Fortunately, there is no rental fee for the current booth. You only need to pay 600 yuan for the use of the booth equipment every month. If the rent is restored, it will be difficult to continue business.

Wan Fangwei, a farmer cooperator in Fuyang City, Anhui Province, told a reporter from Sino-Singapore Jingwei that compared with pig raising, chicken raising not only has a shorter and faster cycle, but also a high survival rate.

“Generally speaking, it takes 5 months for pigs to be released, broilers can be released for about 40 days, and laying hens start to lay eggs in more than 100 days to see money. However, the price of chicken feed and chicken fry are rising this year, but the price of chicken In the continuing decline, the more broilers a farm raises, the greater the loss."

According to the monitoring data released by China Feed Industry Information Network, on September 15, the price of white feather broiler chickens nationwide was 3.6 yuan/kg, down 0.73% from the previous day, and compared with 4.95 yuan/kg on April 1. The drop was as high as 27.27%.

According to data from the China Animal Husbandry Association, white feather broiler chickens are the largest source of chicken meat in my country's terminal consumer market, accounting for more than 50% in 2017.

Regarding the low chicken price, Zhang Li, a researcher at the Institute of Agricultural Information of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, analyzed that there are two main reasons for this: On the one hand, production capacity is expanding rapidly and market supply is sufficient.

According to monitoring data from the China Animal Husbandry Association, the average stock of white feather broiler ancestor breeders and parent breeder breeders increased by 23.8% and 5.0% year-on-year, respectively, and increased by 44.4% and 15.5% from 2018.

On the other hand, consumer demand is weak.

This year the new crown pneumonia epidemic has had a greater impact on the economy, catering and group consumption.

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, catering revenue in the first seven months fell by 30% year-on-year.

Due to the impact of the economic situation, consumer demand has been significantly reduced, and the digestion of a large number of chicken products and frozen stock products that were built up in the early stage of the new crown pneumonia epidemic has been relatively slow.

One increase and one decrease directly caused the continued downturn of chicken prices.
