Successive fraudulent withdrawals Requested to strengthen security Financial Services Agency September 16 4:03

Due to a series of fraudulent withdrawals from bank accounts through electronic payment services, the Financial Services Agency has requested financial institutions nationwide to strengthen security by introducing a mechanism to verify their identity in two stages.

On the 15th, the Financial Services Agency requested financial institutions nationwide that handle deposits to take measures to prevent damage through six organizations, including the Japanese Bankers Association of Japan, the Regional Banks Association of Japan, and the National Credit Union Association.

First, we asked each financial institution to confirm that there are no security issues when customers charge by linking electronic payment services and accounts.

If there are any problems, we requested that security be strengthened by introducing a "one-time password" that can be used only for a certain period of time and a mechanism that confirms the identity in two stages.

Until the introduction of such a mechanism, we requested that the electronic payment service and new accounts be linked and charges be suspended.

The Financial Services Agency should send similar documents to 78 businesses that provide electronic payment services, and respond promptly and politely to financial institutions and businesses when they receive consultations from users who are worried about damage. I also asked for it.
