Fiat V2G -
DR
This Monday, September 14, near the Mirafiori automobile production plant in Turin, Fiat presented its V2G Vehicle-to-Grid experiment (from the car to the network, in French) in the presence of the Italian authorities, including the Minister of Economic development.
This is a variation of two-way charging on which various manufacturers are working around the world (Tesla, Nissan, Audi, etc.).

Store and distribute green energy
On the logistics esplanade, we were able to see the first production electric Fiat 500s awaiting delivery to customers.
64 in number, these are connected to 32 recharging terminals supplied by a maxi-canopy covered with photovoltaic panels.
During the day, when the sun is generous, they therefore benefit from green electricity that they can store in order to redistribute it in the national electricity grid.
This can be done overnight or, more simply, when demand increases on the network.
In principle, this two-way recharging does not damage the batteries of vehicles that are not intended to remain parked and connected indefinitely.

On the other hand, if we see the concept through the prism of the company vehicle, a car that remains stationary costs money.
Here, on the contrary, they would make it possible to harvest it by sharing green electricity with the national grid.
Between 2021 and 2022, up to 700 vehicles will be able to connect to the V2G network, making the Fiat logistics esplanade the largest two-way charging network in the world.

We can see this, even if there are still technical and practical obstacles, electricity suppliers, network managers (in this case, Engie Eps and Terna) and manufacturers are considering how to optimize tomorrow's electro-mobility.
