"The task of the Danish Energy Agency in connection with permits or decisions issued in relation to pipelines ... is solely to ensure compliance with environmental and safety requirements," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

According to Christensen, Denmark, like other Baltic Sea states, has ratified the Convention on the Law of the Sea and is therefore obliged to authorize transit pipelines in its sections of the continental shelf.

“The Danish Energy Agency's responsibility for the pipe laying is limited to ensuring that companies comply with the conditions under which the permit was granted,” he stressed.

Earlier, Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredriksen called for a revision of the position on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline because of the situation with Alexei Navalny.

In July, DEA authorized Nord Stream 2 AG to use anchor pipelayers for the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the country's territorial waters.

In October 2019, DEA issued Nord Stream 2 a permit to lay a gas pipeline along a route southeast of Bornholm Island.
