The assets of the new members of the 21st National Assembly were revealed at the end of last month.

Civic groups have compared 15 members of the National Assembly, whose assets have increased by more than 1 billion won than they reported in the candidate.

Reporter Jeong Seong-jin reports how it has changed in just a few months and whether there are no loopholes in the system.

property reported as of the end of last year as a candidate for the general election was compared with the property reported as of May 30 after election as a member of the National Assembly.

The three lawmakers who have increased their fortunes by more than 10 billion won are the People's Power of the People Bongmin Jeon, Mookyung Han, and Lee Sangjik Lee of the Democratic Party.

The main reason is that the standards for reporting unlisted stock assets have changed.

At the time of candidate registration, the stock was reported at the par value, but from June this year, the actual value of the company, such as net income, was reflected.

In some cases, property differences have arisen because of loose standards for registering candidate property.

Democratic Party Hong Seong-guk and People's Power Rep. Heo Eun-ah have increased their real estate property by more than 500 million won, but the main factor is the registration of additional parental property.

When registering as a candidate, parents or children who maintain independent livelihoods can refuse to register their property only by submitting documents, but as a member of the National Assembly, the parent's job status and possessions must be verified.

Candidate property registration has the purpose of preventing unjust property growth and also serves as a criterion for judgment to voters. The National Election Commission is not obligated to verify a candidate's property report.
