15 species such as yellowtail and red sea bream Aim to increase catch by 1 million tons in 10 years September 14, 4:12

Regulations have been expanded to restore fishery resources around Japan.

The Fisheries Agency has put together a draft process chart for managing 15 types of fish such as yellowtail and red sea bream by setting an upper limit on the catch, and aims to increase the catch in 10 years by more than 1 million tons.

Most of the marine products such as salmon and Japanese flying squid caught in Japan are decreasing year by year due to changes in the marine environment such as rising seawater temperature.

For this reason, the government has set a goal of increasing the catch to 4.44 million tons, which is more than 1 million tons more than the present, in FY2012, 10 years later, and has compiled a draft process chart to achieve it.

Specifically, 15 types of fish such as yellowtail and red sea bream will be added to the target of the system that sets and manages the upper limit of catch.

Currently, the target of this system is limited to eight types such as bluefin tuna and saury, but if the 15 types are added to the target, 80% of the domestic catch will be subject to regulation.

However, since the impact on fishermen is not small, we will set up a forum for consideration with experts when setting the target, and make decisions based on scientific resource evaluation and the actual situation of fishing.

The Fisheries Agency will solicit opinions from the general public until the 25th of this month on the draft process chart, and then formally decide on it.
