“I would like to note that the depth of the economic recession in Russia, the decrease in GDP turned out to be less than in other leading countries,” he said at a meeting with members of the government.

According to him, in the second quarter of 2020, the drop in GDP in Russia was 8.5%, in the United States - 9.5%, and in the eurozone - 15%.

He agreed with the statement of some experts that to some extent this is due to the structure of the Russian economy, noting that not only this played a role.

“It is also obvious that targeted, well-thought-out and, most importantly, timely measures to support labor collectives, enterprises, entire industries, which were taken at the federal level by the Russian government and in the regions by our colleagues, played a role,” the president said.

Also, Putin said that unemployment in Russia is still at a fairly high level and exceeds 6%.
