In August alone, 5G mobile phone shipments accounted for a higher proportion.
In August, the domestic market shipped 16.17 million 5G mobile phones, accounting for 60.1% of mobile phone shipments during the same period; 22 new models were launched, accounting for 48.9% of the number of new mobile phone models launched in the same period.
Due to the impact of the epidemic, although 5G has brought a new wave of replacement, the entire mobile phone market is in a state of decline.
In August 2020, the total domestic mobile phone market shipped 26.907 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 12.9%; from January to August, the total domestic mobile phone market shipments totaled 202 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 19.5%.
Factors such as network, application, tariff, etc. will affect the sales of 5G mobile phones.
An official from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China introduced in early September that China’s 5G network construction has been accelerating, with more than 480,000 5G base stations built across the country; the number of 5G terminal connections has continued to grow, and the number of 5G online terminal connections has exceeded 100 million.
In terms of applications, 5G "killer applications" have not yet appeared, and many consumers are still on the sidelines of 5G mobile phones.
Wu Hequan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that 5G has played a role as a fusion agent for industrial technology and information technology. The new mobile communication business is spawned after the network is equipped, and 5G will definitely produce new applications that cannot be imagined.
