Payment giants such as Lakala Remittance are included in the "blacklist"

The Credit Card Center of Everbright Bank issued the "Announcement on Merchants Not Accumulating Points for Everbright Bank Credit Cards". Starting from November 1, 2020, Everbright Bank will add a list of merchants that do not accumulate points, including some transactions accepted by third-party payment institutions.

At the same time, cardholders will not accumulate credit card points for transactions at merchants such as utilities, supermarkets, gas, transportation, and insurance.

It is worth noting that from the acquiring institution numbers announced by China Everbright Bank, 19 third-party payment institutions including Lakala, UBS, Guotong Xingyi, Jialian Pay, and Huipay will enter the Everbright Bank credit card without accumulating In the list of point merchants.

The move by China Everbright Bank is not the first in the industry. Many banks, including Minsheng and Guangfa, have cancelled POS credit card points.

For example, the Minsheng Bank Credit Card Center has cancelled the transaction points of approximately 19 acquirers including Lakala and Huifu Tianxia on August 1.

Industry insiders pointed out that most of the third-party payment institutions hacked by banks have a large market share in the field of offline acquiring.

On the other hand, in the context of accelerating online consumption, many banks have expanded their credit rights for online consumption.

For example, the Minsheng Credit Card adds the ability to accumulate points for mainstream third-party payment requirements to meet specific merchant account transactions, including payment through the bank's credit card using App (excluding installment payments), UnionPay cloud QuickPass App scan code payment, and WeChat payment , Alipay, Meituan Pay, JD Pay, Xiaomi Pay, Didi Pay, Vipshop, etc.

Regarding the bank’s actions to restrict offline credit card points rules, a relevant person at a bank’s credit card center analyzed that this year many banks adjusted the credit card points rules in order to curb cashing out and set points, and to regulate the use of cards by users to save costs.

Credit card asset quality under pressure

From the perspective of credit card asset quality, among the 15 listed banks that disclosed comparable data, as of the end of June, the non-performing loan ratio of two banks' credit card loans was lower than that at the beginning of the year. Opening up to the outside world has effectively promoted the improvement of the quality of capital market operations. Among them, China CITIC Bank stated that due to the impact of the epidemic, credit cardholders' income has declined, their ability to repay loans has declined, and their willingness to repay has weakened, and credit risks have been under pressure. From an industry perspective, cardholders with relatively high rates of non-performing loans and problem loans are mainly in business, trade and manufacturing.
