JR East next spring Within a radius of 100km from Tokyo station To the next train advance 16:41 on September 3

Due to the influence of the new coronavirus, the number of people who use trains at midnight will decrease, but JR East will accelerate the last train on the metropolitan area line by about 30 minutes from next spring.

We would like to improve the working environment of workers by ensuring the time for maintenance and inspection of the tracks after the last train.

Targets are Yamanote Line, Chuo Line, Sobu Line, and almost all routes within the metropolitan area within a radius of 100km from Tokyo Station.

It means that the train time will be shortened by about 30 minutes in line with the timetable revision next spring, and the train will be reviewed so that the arrival time at each terminal will be around 1 am.

Next month, we will announce how fast the last train will be for each route.

While the number of passengers in the late-night hours is decreasing due to the new coronavirus, JR East wants to secure the time to devote to the maintenance and inspection work of the tracks after the last train by accelerating the last train.

As a result of irregular work, we would like to improve the working environment where it is difficult to secure personnel.

On some routes, we may also consider delaying the morning departure time.

Yuji Fukasawa, President of JR East, said, “We believe that the level of railway use will not return to normal even after the spread of infection subsides. The lack of manpower necessary to maintain equipment is also serious, and all users understand that I want you to do that."

From next spring, JR West has also decided to accelerate the time of the last train on the main lines in the Kansai area by up to about 30 minutes.
